Read Write Inc Introductory Letter

The programme centres on the pupils knowing pure sounds for each letter of the alphabet and the other common graphemes in the English alphabet (one of the hardest languages in the world to write!)  Actions, rhymes and stories are all used to capture the pupils’ interest and attention.

The pupils are quickly taught to link the sound to the written symbol so that they can begin to write with increasing independence.  Memory, thinking, ICT and oracy skills are all developed in a structured and positive way.

Positive praise is used to really good effect to encourage and motivate the pupils to succeed.  Cheers recommended in the programme have been adopted in all areas of school life.  Our fantastic pupils have even thought of their own cheers, such as the Ardderchog Salute, Braf Wave, Silent Cheer and Sea Dog Salute to name but a few.

The programme is centred on ‘The 5 Ps’ – Praise, Pace, Participation, Purpose and Passion.  The teachers will also Persevere to ensure all pupils become confident and able readers.

The pupils are assessed regularly to ensure they are accessing the programme at the correct stage of learning. They really enjoy showing Miss Hickman and Miss Williams just how much they have learnt!
For pupils who know all of the Speed Sounds, a new and exciting spelling programme is utilised. This is taught alongside Comprehension Plus which ensures the pupils enjoy a variety of text types.

Regular meetings are held in school to ensure parents are fully informed about the learning their children are undertaking.

Please look at www.ruthmiskinliteracy.com/ for more details and don’t forget to check out the parent’s information board in the Reception playground.

New dates for meetings coming soon!
