Ein Hysgol Ni

Our school is a Local Authority Primary School for children aged 3 to 11 years. We are situated on the outskirts of the county town of Carmarthen and serve the community of Johnstown and other outlying areas. English is the medium of instruction but the ethos of our school is distinctly Welsh. We are a welcoming, open and family friendly community. We support the Curriculum Cymreig and teach Welsh as a second language. Incidental Welsh speaking is encouraged in school everyday.

Mae'r plant yn mwynhau dysgu a siarad Cymraeg trwy gydol y dydd. Mae'r pwyslais ar yr iaith lafar, a defnyddir 'iaith bob dydd' trwy'r ysgol.

We believe children learn best when they feel happy, secure, confident, valued and respected. Our School Motto 'Be all you can Be' and the associated three rules of 'Respect others', 'Respect yourself' and 'Be a good learner' help us create an inclusive atmosphere and one in which the values of lifelong learning are upheld. We aspire that our children should make themselves known and understood in the world and that they will grow in tolerance and understanding. We expect that our children will develop high standards of literacy and numeracy and that their personal and social skills will enable them to reach their full potential in a wide range of other areas of learning too. We offer a curriculum of opportunity and enrichment, which means our children enjoy all areas of learning in the Foundation Phase and all subjects of the National Curriculum at Key Stage Two.

We enjoy many successes in Music and as an Eco School, Dragon Sport School and Healthy School. We also believe ICT can enhance and extend the children's learning and enable them to maximise the potential of the twenty first century for themselves as learners. Our broad and balanced curriculum is supported by an extensive range of extra curricular activities which include day and residential visits, and after school classes. Many families benefit from our Free Breakfast Club and join the fee paying after school care club and holiday club.
